While New York Fashion Week is in full swing every year, there is a rival event that doesn’t focus on the mainstream designers and the ‘big names’ in fashion. It’s called Nolcha Fashion Week and it’s a leading showcase for independent fashion. It allows independent and up-and-coming designers to show their collections to a global audience.
With the rise of the Internet, independent fashion designers are able to attract a larger audience and following than they were previously able to. There are even online boutiques that sell exclusively independent designers. You don’t have to be in New York or LA to purchase the indie designers that catch your eye—now these designs are available to anyone with a credit card.
Blogs have also allowed emerging designers to show their creations to a wider audience, who can then purchase what they love. They are able to use beautiful, stunning photos to showcase their pieces in a format that is easily readable and accessible.
Watch out mainstream labels—the emerging designers have a few new tricks up their sleeves to attract business and increase their presence.
